Fundraising for Phase 2 in Bouassa is far from over but we keep on keepin’ on!

So here’s where we stand to date:

We have raised €5,631 ($6,333), including €1,631 ($1,834) of individual gifts (thank you so much to all those who have given!), and a grant from a local municipal community of €4,500 ($5,061) which had already participated in Phase 1. However, as you’ve probably seen on the website: www.bouassa.org/eng , the target is €67,000 ($75,358) !

What is really encouraging is that a large French firm, working in Burkina Faso, has verbally committed to sponsor the water tower with a €30,000 grant, this should come in by the end of the year. We hope to obtain a letter of intent from this company so we can contact two other agencies that would donate specifically for the latrines and the vegetable garden.

Despite some delays we’ve had to manage so far, Phase 2 in Bouassa is well underway. What is also extremely positive, for the longer term, is that our economic model, that has been established in this village, has gathered substantial interest from international institutions for more funding and duplication in other places in the country and even other countries!

The advantage of our approach, and we are definitely not the only one doing this, is that the work creates community involvement, by training them, giving them a future outlook, so much so that eventually it becomes “their” development project and then they “own it.” It is in this dynamic that the pigsty project, that we were talking about recently and others that will follow find their purpose.

The adventure continues! Will you stay with us?

…and we still adamantly believe…
