Season’s Greetings for a place where the story is to be continued…!

We haven’t updated you in a few weeks, but I can assure you, all is well! We are still expecting news from the company that wants to sponsor the water tower. We were hoping that December would have been the deadline, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. We will have to wait until next year, which is just around the corner!

Just recently we received a gift of €150 specifically for the children in Bouassa. With that gift, they will be able to have a wonderful Christmas meal. The leftover funds will be used to offer each child a small tube of toothpaste and some soap. This would be a great Christmas for them!

Some time ago, we were talking about the pigsty project that several friends of the village, within the framework of a non-profit, had launched. This took some time, but now the application is finalized. It will be sent shortly to an organization in Belgium. It might be necessary to find additional financing to be able to get the entire project of the ground, but the project really makes sustainable sense.

Within the framework of this pigsty, every three months, groups of 10 people will be trained as soon as it is launched. At the end of the 3-month training, these people will form small units of 5 people who will receive a micro-credit, part of which will be in livestock, in order to start their own pigsty. In the long term and over a period of 3 years, 90 people will be trained, 18 small pig farms created and accompanied until the end of the reimbursement of micro-credits.  And a new, hardy breed of swine in Burkina will be developed and consolidated.

Can you imagine what will become of the Kougpélin district in the next few years? Dream a little! Villagers who have access to drinking water in large quantities through the Human Pump and the water tower. Latrines with sewage recovery systems and a small vegetable garden where unemployed women will be trained to create their own vegetable gardens. A cost-effective, functional pigsty that will eventually finance other projects to create economic activities in the village. Children trained, cared for, educated and fed regularly.

This is the Bouassa project. That is what we are talking about when we talk about sustainable development. So, to finish 2016, would you like to join us in wishing the best to our friends of the village of Bouassa for 2017?

“Happy New Year, friends of Bouassa!”
