“The good news”: the pigsty project has been funded and the finances should reach Burkina in the next few days! What an amazing step forward in the overall development initiative for the village of Bouassa. We are truly grateful to the Belgian non-profit organization that has gotten behind what we are trying to accomplish. Over the next three years, 90 young people will be trained and start their own pigsty project in the surrounding towns and villages with a small starting litter and enough to build a small pigsty.

“The less good news”: the foundation that had pledged to fund the water tower, after months of work and applications put together, decided to withdraw from the project for a reason that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. So, we must start looking for partners again that will support Bouassa’s goals. The water tower remains a truly key element in the overall initiative that our non-profit, ET’AL, as well as Réhobot, have been carrying since 2014. We will not give up that easily!

“In other news”: A friend and agronomist, specializing in water saving family vegetable gardens, will go to Bouassa in the next coming days to make a cursory diagnostic in order to enlarge our scope of training and establishment of these same family gardens in the the village.

The first idea: at an unplanned meeting in Paris we ran into with the former mayor of Bouassa that was passing through the city.  We spoke about bringing electricity to Bouassa through solar panels. For example, in locations like the middle school, the dispensary and even the small-town square where the water pump is installed.

The second idea: for some time now we have been thinking about an approach to mobilize our network relative to individual donations in order to support small projects associated with the more important aspects. For example, the meals for the one hundred children that the small Protestant parish tries to support, the brickwork that some young unemployed people would like to start. There is also the accompaniment for hygiene that two ladies would like to organize in the neighborhood and as they are in this field, provide basic care. To do this, they would need a small first aid kit, but also enough to buy soap, toothbrushes, and so on.

And yesterday, while talking to a friend, we agreed to look for volunteers that could reach out to their own relational network from time to time, invite one of us from the team to explain in more detail what we are doing and finally, organize donations to continue to support the development of Bouassa.

Would you be interested? Let us know and we will call you to discuss the details.
